A higher order differential equation involves a function, and any number derivatives greater than 3. It can be written as

{a_n(x)y^{(n)}+a_{n-1}(x)y^{(n-1)}...a_1(x)y+a_0(x) = f(x)}

One important note: Linear combinations of solutions to a linear homogeneous differential equations are also solutions.
